51 block circle in Minecraft (radius 25)

A 51-block-wide circle takes 144 blocks for a 1-block outline and 2,053 to fill it. Go around each quarter in runs of 11·3·3·1·2·1·2·1·2·1·2·1·3·3·11. The centre is a single block, because 51 is odd.

How to build it

  1. Mark the centre block. Count 25 blocks out from the centre block in all four directions and mark those four points.
  2. Place the four flat edges of 11. Centre each flat edge on one of the four points: 5 blocks either side of it.
  3. Fill each corner with 3·3·1·2·1·2·1·2·1·2·1·3·3. After each run, step one block diagonally inward and place the next run. Do the same in all four corners.
  4. Repeat for each layer. A straight wall is the same ring on every layer (a 5-high wall takes 720 blocks). A dome or sphere shrinks the ring as it goes up.
All 51 rows, north to south

Each row lists its runs of blocks from west to east; "2-2" means 2 blocks, a gap, then 2 blocks.

Questions

How many blocks is a 51 block circle?

144 blocks for a 1-block outline with diagonal steps, 200 for an outline with no diagonal gaps, and 2,053 for a filled disc.

Should I build 51 or 50?

51 is odd, so the circle has one centre block: doors, beacons and pillars line up with the middle. 50 has a 2×2 centre instead.

How many blocks for a 51 sphere or dome?

A hollow 51 block sphere with a 1-block shell takes 6,642 blocks; a hollow 51 dome (26 layers, open at the bottom) takes 3,333. Plan them layer by layer in the sphere generator or the dome generator.

Thin or thick outline?

A thin outline (144 blocks) steps diagonally, so mobs and water can slip through the corners. A thick outline (200 blocks) adds a block at every step, which makes a sealed wall.
