How to import .litematic, .schem and .mcstructure files

Java: put the .litematic file in your .minecraft/schematics folder, press M in game, choose Load Schematics, pick the file and load it as a placement. WorldEdit users load a .schem with //schem load and paste it. Bedrock on Windows: use a structure block in Load mode and its Import button.

Updated 21 Oct 2026 · Checked on Java Edition 1.21.x and 26.x (Litematica and WorldEdit builds for your exact game version), Bedrock Edition 1.21.x and 26.x

Quick steps

  1. Install the mods. Install Fabric Loader, then Litematica and its library MaLiLib, all for your exact game version.
  2. Copy the file. Put the .litematic file in the schematics folder inside your .minecraft folder (or your launcher instance folder). Create the folder if it does not exist.
  3. Load it in game. Press M, choose Load Schematics, select the file, keep Create placement ticked and click Load Schematic.
  4. Move the placement. The ghost build appears at your position. Open Schematic Placements (M + P) to move or rotate it, then build over the ghost blocks.

Which file is for which game

File Game Tool you need What it does
.litematic Java Litematica mod (Fabric) Shows the build as ghost blocks you build over, layer by layer, with a material list
.schem Java WorldEdit (mod or server plugin) Pastes the blocks into the world at once
.mcstructure Bedrock Structure block (Windows) or a behavior pack Places the blocks into the world
.mcfunction Java or Bedrock A data pack / behavior pack function Runs /fill and /setblock commands; large builds are split under the 32,768-block limit of one /fill

Every file we export is made by our own code from the shape you planned. It holds blocks only: no entities, no commands that run by themselves.

Java: Litematica (.litematic)

Litematica does not place blocks for you in survival: it shows a see-through “ghost” of the build so you can place every block in the right spot. That makes it the best fit for circles, domes and pixel art.

  1. Install Fabric Loader, Litematica and MaLiLib for your exact game version. Mod versions are tied to game versions, so check the mod page before you update the game.
  2. Copy the file into .minecraft/schematics/. If you use a launcher with separate instances, use that instance’s folder. Create the schematics folder if it is missing.
  3. Load it. In game press M, choose Load Schematics, select the file, keep Create placement ticked and click Load Schematic.
  4. Place it. The placement starts where you stand. Open Schematic Placements (M + P) to move, rotate or mirror it. The material list (M + L) shows what to gather, and the verifier (M + V) finds wrong or missing blocks.

Tip: show one layer at a time (Litematica’s render-layer setting) and work from the bottom up, the same way the studio’s build mode works.

Java: WorldEdit (.schem)

WorldEdit pastes the whole build at once. It works in single player (as a mod) and on servers (as a plugin) where you have permission.

  1. Copy the file into the WorldEdit schematics folder:
    • single player or mod servers: config/worldedit/schematics/
    • Paper/Spigot servers: plugins/WorldEdit/schematics/
  2. Load it: //schem load circle-25 (the file name without .schem). //schem list shows the files WorldEdit can see.
  3. Paste it: stand where you want it and run //paste. Add -a (//paste -a) so air in the file does not erase blocks already in the world. If it lands in the wrong place, //undo, move and paste again.

We export Sponge schematic format version 2 by default (read by WorldEdit 7 and newer) and version 3 on request.

Bedrock: structure block (.mcstructure)

On Windows:

  1. Turn on cheats for the world, then get a structure block: /give @s structure_block.
  2. Place it, open it and switch the mode to Load.
  3. Click Import (only on Windows) and pick the .mcstructure file.
  4. Set the offset and rotation, then click Load.

A structure block handles up to 64 x 384 x 64 blocks. Larger builds have to be split; the studio’s Bedrock export splits them for you.

On phones and tablets: put the file in the structures folder of a behavior pack (see Microsoft’s sample pack in the sources), for example structures/seedview/circle25.mcstructure, add the pack to your world and run /structure load seedview:circle25 ~ ~ ~. Consoles cannot import files.

No mods? Build it by hand

Every shape page shows the plan layer by layer, the run pattern and the material list. On a phone, build mode keeps your place: tap a run when it is done and the next one lights up.

Questions

Which file should I download?

Java with Litematica: .litematic. Java with WorldEdit (single player or a server): .schem. Bedrock: .mcstructure. If you only want to place blocks by hand, you need no file at all: use the layer plan and build mode.

Do the files work on newer game versions?

Yes. Our Java files are written for Java 1.21.1 (data version 3955) with plain blocks, and newer versions, including the 26.x releases, upgrade older files when they load them. Older game versions may refuse files from newer ones, which is why we use an older data version.

Can I import a .mcstructure on a phone or console?

The structure block Import button is only on Windows. On phones and tablets you can put the file in a behavior pack and load it with /structure load. Consoles cannot import files.

Why is nothing showing after I load the schematic?

The placement is created where you stand when you load it, so look around you and check that rendering is on (M, then the render toggle). In WorldEdit, //paste puts the build next to you; if it lands in the wrong place, use //undo, move and paste again.
