10 block circle in Minecraft

A 10-block-wide circle takes 28 blocks for a 1-block outline and 80 to fill it. Go around each quarter in runs of 4·2·1·4. The centre is a 2×2 square, because 10 is even.

Rule: a block counts when its centre lies inside the circle, the same grid the game uses. Checked 21 Oct 2026.

How to build it

  1. Mark the 2×2 centre. Count 4 blocks out past the 2×2 centre in all four directions and mark those four points.
  2. Place the four flat edges of 4. Centre each flat edge on one of the four points: 2 blocks either side of the centre line.
  3. Fill each corner with 2·1. After each run, step one block diagonally inward and place the next run. Do the same in all four corners.
  4. Repeat for each layer. A straight wall is the same ring on every layer (a 5-high wall takes 140 blocks). A dome or sphere shrinks the ring as it goes up.

On this size one quarter has a square corner: the block where the line turns is counted once, in the run before the turn, which is why the pattern is not the same read backwards.

All 10 rows, north to south

Each row lists its runs of blocks from west to east; "2-2" means 2 blocks, a gap, then 2 blocks.

Questions

How many blocks is a 10 block circle?

28 blocks for a 1-block outline with diagonal steps, 36 for an outline with no diagonal gaps, and 80 for a filled disc.

Should I build 10 or 11?

10 is even, so the centre is a 2×2 square: good for a 2-wide door or a 2×2 pillar. 11 has a single centre block instead.

How many blocks for a 10 sphere or dome?

A hollow 10 block sphere with a 1-block shell takes 240 blocks; a hollow 10 dome (5 layers, open at the bottom) takes 120. Plan them layer by layer in the sphere generator or the dome generator.

Thin or thick outline?

A thin outline (28 blocks) steps diagonally, so mobs and water can slip through the corners. A thick outline (36 blocks) adds a block at every step, which makes a sealed wall.
